Orvis Asheville Fly-Fishing School
The Orvis North Carolina 2-Day Fly Fishing School is held in Asheville on the exquisite 8,000-acre Biltmore Estate.
Store Manager: Austin Smith
Austin came to Orvis Asheville as a member of the opening team in the fall of 2012. A North Carolina native, Austin has spent countless hours fishing and hunting across the state; his focus has been in the western part of North Carolina since 2006, while attending college at Western Carolina University. His favorite type of trout fishing is on high-alpine brook-trout streams, and he also enjoys fly tying, wood working, gardening, and good beer. Austin lives in Asheville with his wife Jenni and their two retrievers Tuck and Drake.
Fishing Manager: Sav Sankaran
Sav started at Orvis Asheville in 2013 and has been a reliable team member ever since. He is originally from the Allegheny Mountains of rural, central Pennsylvania and cut his teeth on famous limestone streams, such as the Little Juniata and Spring Creek. For the past eight years, he has called western North Carolina home and has fished and hunted all over southern Appalachia. Sav lives in the mountains outside of Asheville with his fiancé Amber and their two dogs, a beagle named Penny and a Boykin spaniel named Jeb. He is also an accomplished bluegrass musician with several major albums to his credit.
