Store Manager: Nick Garlock
A fly-fishing guide on the Muskegon River for 10 years, Nick Garlock was perfectly prepared to take the helm at Orvis Grand Rapids. This Michigan native and former US Navy sailor still gets out on the water as much as he can and prefers to fly fish for, as he told us, “Anything that swims.” Though if given a choice, he’d most likely head for Belize and Ambergris Caye, a favorite destination he’s visited multiple times. Fly tying and wingshooting are also high on his list of loves. With a strong background in the hospitality industry Nick is a natural when it comes to managing the everyday challenges of running a retail operation. He always looks forward to getting his customers exactly what they need. Whether it’s apparel, gear, or guidance, Nick’s always ready to get his customers headed in the right direction.
Fishing Manager: Trent Jackson
A Grand Rapids native, Trent has spent his life pursuing all things recreation. In his time spent earning a bachelor’s degree in Outdoor Recreation Leadership and Management, Trent developed his knowledge in wilderness first response, multi-week back-country trips, classroom management as well as resource management. Coupling this skill set with his knowledge of the local fishery, Trent has developed the Fly-Fishing classes and trip offerings at the store – creating a “funnel” of growth opportunities within the sport for his clientele. These have included leading the multi store hosted “Come Fish With Us” trip to the Pere Marquette River along with frequent day trips to the Rogue and Muskegon Rivers. This summer, Trent will be hosting his first trip to Falcon’s Ledge, Orvis Endorsed Lodge in Utah. When Trent is not at the store, you can find him exploring new places with his wife, Morgan, and dog, Titus. Trent mentioned that “Faith, family, friends and fishing are his main pursuits.”
